6 Keep classes as small as possible. Right now, my child has 14 in class -- excellent structure -- excellent teacher. Environment is well suited for teacher & students.
6 She has a small class size this year -- 13 -- which is wonderful. I would like to see this size continue from year to year.
2 Too many children in child's class & too wide a range of abilities. Makes it extremely hard for teacher to gear her teaching adequately to all levels even though she tries
2 Get to skills acquisition faster and more thoroughly, in smaller classes.
1 We need a "math initiative" program to bring additional resources and commitment to elementary school math education in the same way that the reading initiative has done for reading instruction. A single teacher cannot teach 24 children (the number in my son's class) who represent at least 3 different cognitive levels of understanding, with significant variation within each level depending on the topic being studied. I volunteer to help with math in my son's classroom on a weekly basis, and I am convinced that every child in that room would benefit greatly from more individualized attention.
4 Reduce number of students in each class so more individualized teaching can occur. Hire more teachers and pay them more money!
? Better classroom sizes
1 Smaller class size.

1 With large class sizes and a large population of children with non-English speaking parents, it amazes me that my daughter's 1st grade class at [ ] accomplishes very much. The teacher [ ] is given a huge task.
My suggestions:
1. Lower class sizes.
1 Focus should also be on teacher overload. Many teachers need assistance in big numbered classes. Not every child is focused on what she is saying and teaching. Maybe for a class of 26 with a minimum of 45-50 minutes given to instruct groups of 5 or 6 students for a period of 15 min to 20 min will help individualize the math and other classes on a personal level. Maybe allotting more time on the clock just to accommodate this one or two day a week class.
3 Smaller classes

2 Q6: Level is okay, but there are too many students in the class for the children to be able to b
Q14: Like reading, math instruction needs to be given more attention. Children cannot acquire a good mastery of the basic skills they need in large classes where little extra support is provided. Children need to have solid number awareness before they move. The math curriculum in 3rd through 5th grade is horribly designed.
2 Smaller class size. 27 students are too many

10 Smaller class size for honors/AP classes. Supports for these students.
3 Better student/teacher ratio
2 Smaller classes so that students are grouped more finely and receive more attention, but that's true for all subjects, not just math.
4 Smaller groups sizes teacher & student ratio
2 More small group or individual attention to teach basic concepts
3 There is a need for a more challenging small group curriculum
1 Small group instructions rotated with individual working (like reading initiative)
5 Smaller groups or additional teachers to assist and a larger room to conduct class
1 Q5: No. I think groups need to be smaller to meet each child's need.
3 Class should be smaller for math instruction. I know they aren't grouped because I've volunteered to help during math -- and this is only time they are grouped (my group of five and then the rest of the class). Perhaps there could be an after school tutorial program which they could sign up for in groups of 3 for 20-30 mins, twice a week. The tutor would be at the school for an hour each day, helping 18 students.
2 Q3: Yes. But the group is too large 15+ kids
