1     There is a wide range of ability levels in her class. It is very difficult for [ ] to teach the class the level necessary when there are certain students who seriously need individual attention just to get through the basics. Any students who need a more advanced program would also be faced with not having enough individual teacher time. Please hire teacher aids who are specialized and dedicated totally to helping in different classrooms for the math period.

1     My feeling is that there is a wonderful opportunity at [ ] because of the mostly well-behaved and diverse student population. But because of the diversity it is important to provide the teachers at [ ] with as much support as necessary. So that ALL of the children can be encouraged to perform at their highest academic level at school and supported at home, regardless of what language they speak at home.

     My suggestions:

     2. Instructional assistants for certain subjects (such as math and reading) for all classes to provide a strong foundation in these subjects.

     3. Instructional assistants to communicate to parents about upcoming tests and their results.

Offer more individual attention:

4     More individualized help -- too much large group instruction

1     More time spent going over individual struggles

9     What approach works best for which students

4     Help for students who have average ability, either tutoring, individual time with teacher. Clear communication with parents on strengths & weaknesses.

3     More one on one attention.

Just recently my daughter's teacher has started teaching 6 children one lunch period a week (25% of the class). She realized my daughter and others were slipping through the cracks. I applaud her actions.

I'm not sure how we can make sure each child succeeds in math, but smaller class sizes and more one on one attention may help.

4     Q8: None. Gifted-and-talented kids get nothing beyond class time. At lower levels, such as 1st & 2nd grade, children who are above grade level need more support & encouragement to achieve. At all levels, "raising the bar" should not mean lowering our expectations & demands for those who want & need a higher level of instruction.

2     There seem to be a lot of children with individual needs & not enough staff to meet them.

7     That kids who need extra help in learning be given that help

P.S. My son has a home math tutor 1X/week and he still got a D on his report card and an E in the final semester exam. He is in Honors Pre-Calculus. (He's in all major subject honors classes). As a parent, I don't understand this.

4     I've had to hire a tutor & I resent it!!

8     Math is her hardest subject. But I believe the teacher has difficulty conveying the information to such a large group. She can't get the concepts across. 6     Provide call-in homework help (help-line) every day after school hours

7     My child's school offers an after-school math club once a week which is intended to help children with math. The idea is sound, but the school has failed in execution. The instructor present just tells the students to get out their homework and complete it. My child has gone wanting help with a concept not included in that day's homework. He can do his homework at home. What he needed was an instructor to ask him what he wanted help with.

2     Homework club where there's help given

1     Extra/outside after school help (maybe a "fun assignments math class" for students struggling with math concepts (a separate class).

6     Offer extra help after school.

5     Math teacher overworked, is unable to give extra help. Students can't even come in for recess & do homework because there's no "mechanism" for this. So on a day when a kid wants to do homework (be conscientious) because he has sports or Hebrew school or CDC or whatever after school that would infringe on homework time, he's out of luck. There is something organized by our guidance counselor once a week for kids who need help. They can come on Thursday recess & get help from a parent volunteer. This is for any subject, not just math.
